Black Crown by Raye Wagner and Kelly St Clare Review

Hello fellow book nerds! Today’s review is the final installment in the Darkest Drae Series, Black Crown. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this series. It is one of the best series I have read in a while and I am really upset this is the final installment. I am hoping that Raye and Kelly will work together again in the future.

Have you read this series yet? What are your favorite stories written by two authors?

Happy Reading!

Summary

Taken from Goodreads

I will not be ruled by fear.

A depraved emperor. A wasted realm. A dying race.

With Tyrrik by my side, I’ll lead the charge to remedy it all.

After discovering the rightful heir to the Phaetyn, an alliance with the healers should be easy as pancakes. But while the armies of Verald and Gemond march to the border for war, the emperor delivers a crushing blow that threatens to put everything at risk.

As I fight my father’s staggering power, I’m compelled to face evil on his terms. A twisted darkness worse than anything I’ve experienced.

Nothing could’ve prepared me for this.

How far would you go to defeat a merciless sovereign?

I’ll lie to the liars.

I’ll betray the betrayers.

I’ll kill the killers.

I will conquer my fear.

Feedback

Black Crown is the final entry in the Darkest Drae series…. Or is it? I really hope it’s not **cough cough**. I absolutely love this series and this book was a great way to end it. Blood Oath creates Ryn into the person she is while Shadow Wings shows us more of her colorful personality. Black Crown gives us action and purpose. Everything that Ryn, Dyter, and Tyrrik have been working towards comes together in this book. The story starts out with Ryn taking Lani back to the phaetyn’s home to become their true queen. Not long after that the action begins. This book was nonstop and kept me wanting more. The writing between Raye and Kelly is undeniable. There is a cohesion between the two that makes this book read as one. I would have never guessed that two people worked on this book. The flow of the story never created a dull moment. I really enjoyed seeing Ryn grow so much from the first book. She has taken risks and done what she needs to in order to succeed. The progress of her truly made this story unique.

Ryn. How could anyone not lover her? Her character is so refreshing and great. I could not stop laughing or smiling as I read about her. Without her snarkiness and unique personality, this story would not have been as strong. She brings so much to this world that without her the story would have been dull. I was a little disappointed that we did not get as much sarcasm from her that we received in Shadow Wings. Even though Ryn’s sarcasm was not as prevalent in this book, we got something amazing in return. Tyrrik. I liked Tyrrik’s character from book one but holy draebabies, did I love him even more in this book. Now that Ryn has accepted him as a mate we see a lot more of his personality. I love his protectiveness and willingness to against his natural intentions to do what is best for Ryn. He is also hysterical in this book. Every character in this series was so well developed that I truly have a connection with them all. I could not have wanted anything more from this series. Well, except for more

Final Thoughts

Overall, Black Crown by Raye Wagner and Kelly St. Clare was an amazing ending to this series. I cannot express enough how much I loved the story and the characters within it. From book one we get to watch each character grow from the struggles they face. Each character has such a unique personality that it truly enriches the story. I absolutely recommend this series for anyone who is a fantasy fan. The only disappointment you’ll receive is that the series has ended.
