The Lost Prince

The Lost Prince (The Nihryst #2)

4.5 out of 5 stars

Summary

Taken from Goodreads

A mythical healing flower. A fractured kingdom. A curse unbroken.

Adalina and Shane will do whatever it takes to protect their people. Even if that means working with the “enemy.”

They stopped one tragedy, but now they face an even bigger challenge. Their only hope lies in the story of a mythical golden flower with powers from the sun.

It’s nothing more than a fairy tale.

But that’s never stopped Ada before.

Once more Ada must set sail on a quest with her favorite band of pirates. While she searches for the magical flower and the truth of the curse on the Nihryst, Shane is left to pick up the pieces of their crumbling kingdom. But there are secrets hidden deep within its history.

Secrets that could destroy everything the royal siblings know.

Feedback

So I have been eagerly awaiting this sequel for a while now. And it did not disappoint. Again, Cait captures the essence of this fantastic retelling of Robin Hood and Tangled. While the first book didn’t have much reference to Tangled, it definitely showed during this novel. I really enjoyed the direction this story went in, and she did not hold back. It was way more intense that I imagined it being. The only thing is, it takes quite a bit to get there. The first book I always felt like something was happening but this one took a little longer. The first half of the book dragged just a little for me. Don’t get me wrong, I flew through this book, but the pacing didn’t match the second half. Once I got about half way through, everything really started to pick up and that’s what I was looking for. However, everything flowed really well together and there was never really a gap throughout. This is one thing I do appreciate about Cait’s writing… she doesn’t delve out useless details just to meet a word count. Every word in the book counts for something which never left me bored.
Oh these characters. I loved them so much. Ada is still definitely my favorite, even though I felt like she was a little more naive in this book. There was an obvious twist that she should have seen coming but I get why she thought differently. However, I love her fierceness and stubbornness. Well, all of the characters are very stubborn in this book but in a good way. I felt like Shane got more time in this book and I’m glad. While his character was always depicted as good, I felt like this was more explored and he had some tough decisions to make but he always stood the higher moral ground. This really made me appreciate him more. What I am sad about is that we didn’t get as much of the Nihryst crew. The Lost Prince really concentrated more on Ada and Shane but I did miss the crew and wanted more of them. However, I really like the way the characters are developing and they are going in the direction I was hoping they would.

Final Thoughts

Overall, The Lost Prince by Cait Marie was a fantastic sequel to The Lost Legends. I really loved the way the story went in this book and I cannot wait to continue the story. Even though the beginning didn’t move as fast as I would have liked it to, the rest of the book was fantastic. There were never any boring parts in this book and each word held importance. I was so happy to be reading Ada and Shane’s story again and seeing them progress. I highly recommend this series, especially if you loved book one, and if you really love retellings with magic and pirates!
